  • 96 3100 to 03 3400 complete few Q's

I just finished completing the 3400 swap to my 96 GP. The 3400 came from a 03 GA. I have a few troubleshooting questions.

I used the cam sensor from the 3100 on the 3400 since the newer sensor didnt have the correct hook up to my wiring harness. Now I am getting a code from the cam sensor about the reference and performance of it?? Is it learning or do I need to put the 3400 sensor in and splice wires into my harness?

Also, why doesnt my 3400 have an oil level sensor in the oil pan?

The boss is there to be drilled and tapped, but I havnt gotten to that yet.

The oil level sensor should be on the bottem middle of the pan... Wierd. I've never heard of having to drill a new hole for a standard sensor...

You will need to use the 3400 sensor. The signal is converted inside the sensor. All the sensors output the same signal, but the signal they get from the cam is different since the trigger design is different.

As far as the oil level sensor, they got rid of that at some point along the line. Why, I don't know and it really doesn't make any sense to me. If you can drill and tap it, then that's great.

        Alright, thanks for the info.

I'll go ahead and take a photo of the pan if you like, trust me the sensor isnt where it supposed to be.....lol

new problem: Im having idle and low speed stumbling.

I thought that changing out the cam sensor and clearing the computer wouldve solved my drivability issues but they have not. I looked at my repair manuals and they say that my 3.1 fuel system is off by 10 psi with the motoroff and the key on compared to what the 03 3400 needs.

What adjustable FPR have some of you used on our engines? or do I need to look at something else?

Secondly, does anyone know the flow ratings on our fuel pumps?

Use the 3100 FPR and fuel injectors.

i am using the 3100 fuel injection on the 3400, i apologize for not making that more clear in my last post.

According to my manuals, the 96' 3100 at turnkey is off by 10 psi (cant remember exact specs) compared to the '03 3400. Something like 42 psi compared to 52 psi.

before you ask, all vacuum hoses and wires are connected correctly, I have no check engine codes of any kind.

figured i might as well try again.....

I used the 3400 fpr and have seen an improvement in the idle quality but going through town the exhaust pulsates kinda like erratic idle.

                Anyone out there?
