  • 3800 Series II Supercharged to a 3.4 TDOHC

Okay... SO I have a line on a 1997 GP GTP, Supercharged, with a missing motor and transmission. It's red, coupe, great shape with leather and a sunroof and DIC/HUD. I can get it for 600 Dollars. In fact, the only thing wrong with it is that it's missing the engine and transmission. Here's what I'm thinking...

Sinc clubGP is practically ClubL67, and I am getting sick of it, and since I LIKE the 3.4 TDOHC... What's it going to take to get a 1997 LQ1 and a 1991 Getrag into the GP GTP? I'm thinking Megasuirt, and I'll do my tubo setup on it, but with a new turbo. Spend the money. Here's the list I've got so far...

    1997 LQ1
    1991 Getrag 282
    Getrag Shifter
    Getrag Cables
    Getrag Clutch and Flywheel
    Pedal Assembly
    Master Cylinder
    Slave cylinder
    Turbo...(Ebay probably, TurboNetics)
    Intercooler(Get one custom made)
    Megasquirt for the computer
All engine mounts from the L67 and 4T65E
All engine mounts from the LQ1 and Getrag
    A welder
    Tools
Balls. Big ones.(Help! Gonna need these!)

    2004 Honda 919, Light Silver Metallic, 6-Speed

It's gonna take a rewire of the harness, isn't it?

I say to hell with megasquirt

If you don't mind ODB1, just use the wiring harness from a 91-93... The damn thing pretty much just needs a battery hook up to run on a bench

That being said, the wiring is VERY similar between the 3100 and 3400. I'm sure that if you found the age-appropriate harness, it'll clip right into the frame, and only need some minor tweaking to work with the 3.4TDC.

If this engine I am looking at goes though I will have my Fiero running on the DOHC and mega squirt, and will require less wires that the OBD1 setup.

less wires because it's *cough cough* an inferior setup *cough cough* :P

For instance.. arent you going to have to run a speedometer interface? Add $80 for a dakota digital SGI-5.... :P
Okay now, that's enough of that.

you could get a harness for a 3100 car, plug it in, move some wires around and use the 96-97 dohc computer and be on your merry way with the exception of the 5 speed swap(ie - the VSS). all the wires are physically the same, however some are in a little bit different locations.

i'd love to see this done.

what makes the megasquirt infeirior??? yes, you will have to figure out the speedo, but there are a lot of other things to do to make an obd1 system work in that car. in the end, its a lot less screwing around to use a megasquirt, and you have the easy tuning of plugging a laptop in, not digging up all the chip burning stuff.

I fergot that the ECU controled the gauges in that car, and agree both computers have their advanages. I love tuning with my MS, very user friendly. I would like to see how you tune with the stock ECU, and see how every thing is orginized, that way I can compare how much they differ.

You'll have to leave the stock ECM in there. OBD-II cars do NOT like having them removed. Your DRL's will try to stay on, all the time. Even with the key off, out, parking brake on... all that good stuff. On top of the fact that none of the guages will work. Then run something else for engine controls. In that case, i'm not sure about the DIC, it probably isnt going to work so well since the PCM wont have any control over what's going on.

shit just do up your own cluster and buy my autotap and have a palm in your car at all times to tell you the speed until you get over that setup and get the guage cluster made

other then that ... i can't wait to see it in the car ...

what year monte's had the that motor? it was odb II ...
