  • installed the 3400, and problems

Tody i finished my swap of a 3400 into a '94 grand prix. everything started and worked beautifully..... AND THEN... i took it for a nice mellow drive around my block, and i noticed an unhappy valvetrain noise. loud ticking, and the engine is missing. Does anyone have any idea of what might be going on?
i think i may have: bent a pushrod, stuck lifter, or pulled the rocker stud out of the threads.

I am running a cammotion cam, ls-1 valve springs with all other stock valvetrain components.

    any ideas are appreciated

good thing, i found a rocker that was rediculously loose under the rear valve cover, the bolt must not have been torqued right and came loose, i fixed that and now it runs beautifuly

thanks for all the help i couldnt have done it without this site or 3400swap

the only problems i have now, is that it misses a little bit, and is quite down on power, but i figure its probably a senosor malfunction, i still have to run the tech 2 on it to see what my codes are. thanks for the help

What injectors/fuel system are you using? I assume you using the 3100's.

yes i am using the 3100's system. i still havent pin pointed the problem but im sure i will. the car has a slight miss at low rpm's and then just feels flat all-around. likes to chug under light acceleration, and when i gunned it it reved up to about 4500 rpm, then started missing badly( felt like i was starting to get into the rev limiter)

Sounds like an ignition issue... How old are the coils, plugs and wires?

Well i found the problem, it was my new knock sensor. I got a knock sensor from murrays when i did my engine swap. I hooked up the ancient tech 1 covered in dust to discover that my knock sensor was retarding my ignition 15* all the time. i put my old one in and now it runs peachy.

good to hear everything's going good. I was fortunate enough that when I installed my 3400 after changing every gasket and seal on the stand, it started right up and never posed a problem. Tranny was another story though, lol.
