  • 94 DHOC Into 93 Z34

Hi all, this is my first post, EVER! If I mess up don't yell too loud. This site is a gold mine! Have never needed to post, as I've always found what I needed,,,, untill now... It probably IS here somewhere.... I've got a 93 Z34 with 186,000 miles and the motor is reaching the end of it's life. Last winter + -0* + leaking LIM = more noise than I want to hear!! I've got a line on a 94 Z34 (in a local bone-yard) with 89,000. The car looks good, except for the fact that it rear-ended something, it's a shame to see it there!! The rest of the car looks like it was pretty sweet. I actually have the rear of that car on mine, as I got rear-ended myself........ I see the injection was changed in 94, as well as an added MAF. Maybe some other things too. Question???? What do I need for the swap?? Meaning, 1.)-Do I need to get the ECM from the 94? 2.)-Does any wiring need to be re-wired or modified. Other than that I don't see much that differs between 93-94..... Any help would be welcome!! I plan on grabbing the engine within the next week, while the getting is good! They want $550 for the motor BTW. ThanxXx in advance,,,, Tom
PS I'll have to get to work on my profile, just wanted to figure out how to post first....

550 seems like too much for a jy motor, maybe if they pull it, check compression, ect. But hell, LQ1s are so hard to find, I would prolly do the same if it looks good enough.
As for your question about the swap. I think that the motor is pretty much the same except for more emissions stuff. I don't think you will have to use the MAF if you don't want, but I really don't know.....
I would assume that the harness is part of the engine assembly, ask them to through it in

you are overcomplicating the situation it seems. that motor is almost identical to yours.

this is what u do for the easiest possible installation. take that motor, remove the vacuum block on the side of the intake and replace it with your MAP sensor.

drop it in and hook it up.

if it suits you, you can also swap over your oil cooler if u have it.

see if they can throw in the harness, ecm and MAF sensor so u can sell it and get some quick $$$.

napatiger--Actually $550 doessn't seem too bad. A US search of carpart.com shows motors of that price seem to have 150-200k. The only other one in CT that I know of (at this point) has 148k and they want $900-$1000, forget exact. This particular JY is exceptional, it's more like a store. Parts already pulled and I think they'll start it for you. I've dealt with them for over 30 years and have had friends that worked there. For around here I haven't found better. They seem to keep tid-bits that usually are difficult to get. Also I've actually been all over the car and have parts that are already on my car, the car would be sweet if it weren't crashed. I think I'm going for it. Naturally I'll check it out in more detail.

dhocfiend--That sounds easy enough!! I knew it wouldn't take too much. I just wondered about the ecm, Advance Auto has a different part number for 93 and 94. Also, I've seen other swaps that required 1 or 2 wires to be repositioned on the main connector.... Not "overcomplicating", just gittin' the facts!! Now if I were in the middle of the swap and ended up scratching my head,,,,, now THAT would be overcomplicated!! I DO NOT like surprises!!!
        ThanxXx for the replies,
        Tom
        Any additional input welcome!!!

Sweet, if they pulled it and it is ran, than great.
          Yeah 550 seems reasonalbe.
I just didn't want you to have to pull an engine and then realize when you got it home that the block was cracked or something.
Seems like you know what you are doing. Good luck
