  • 96 DOHC in 94 DOHC

    Hey Guys,

I have a 94 GTP 3.4 DOHC with 110.000 miles on it, and i also have a complete 1996 3.4 DOHC. Can i use the long block from the 1996?

Will all the parts from the 94 bolt up to the 96? I need some advise. Can you help?

I did this exact same swap over the summer, only problems were connecting my 96 style exhaust manifolds to my 94's exhaust (doughnut gasket or custom part from exhaust shop will fix it), the egr, and the Air ports in the exhaust... so i just plugged those up. Since I didnt have a 96 throttlebody with my motor, I had to use my 94 intake manifolds with the integrated TB. Its a relatively easy swap, everything should just plug right into the wiring harness. Ask me if you run into any problems

    Edit

Use your 96 alternator, and exhasut manifolds... but everything else should bolt right up. If you dont have the exhaust manifolds, spend some money and buy a custom set of headers... milzy's new ones look great.

      Thanks for the reply..

So the only problem i'll have is bolting the 96 manifolds to the 94 exhaust?

Will i have a problem bolting the coil pack to the front of the block?

You have a complete 3.4L from 1996? intake and all?

I just replaced a 92 motor with a 97 motor. I have a 94 convertible, but I just bought it so I haven't notated all the differences other than altenator and MAF.

Changes.. exhaust.. they went to D shape oval exhausts, you really need to get a 96-97 exhaust manifolds, same crossover and downpipe.

EGR changes places, you will need the 3.1L adapter kit (if it is the one with the three valves), i am pretty sure both my cars have the same.

You can put the igniton control module and coil pack on the engine if you remove the front NOC sensor (you only need one with OBDI wiring), however you have the bracket attachments to mount it on top. Big advantage there is it stays dry and cool, instead of hot and with water on the road, wet.

Heater Hose, returns are different, you will need to block off one line, and use the outlet from your 94 water pump on the 96.

Wire lengths for EGR, TPS, and something else.. i forget are too short and you may have to cut and solder in more wire.

Spark plug wires may cause issues on the back 3 plugs as the longer 91-95 wires may rub against the longer plenum of the 96.

hmm, that is all i can think of off the top of my head....... Moving the ICM to the top has made me happy.. mine broke 2 weeks after the new engine and i had it off, exchanged and back together in under an hour. Yeah it is crowded on the top of the engine, but oh well.
