I had a friend swap motors for me in a lumina z34 that had a cracked piston. After he got the pontiac 3.4 down in the lumina he says there is no wire from the original motor for the crank positioning sensor on the pontiac motor. Can anyone help me in this matter.

to be honest I don't know what the pontiac motor come out of. I bought the lumina and the motor from a gentlemen as a package deal. The motor was written on from a junkyard as a 1994 pontiac. The lumina is a 1994 lumina z34. The pontiac motor is a 3.4 DOHC, same as the lumina if I am not mistaken.

I dunno what sort of options there may be with the car that the motor was pulled from. But I got under my car and plugged my CPS wire into the first thing I saw. What I saw was the Oil life sensor for the motor. Which, explained why the wire wasnt long enough to make it to the ICM.
Tell him to look around and make sure it's not plugged into something it's not supposed to be. It may also help to get ahold of a wiring diagram and at the least, see what colors the wires are supposed to be. Lets be honest, the wires didnt just get up and walk away.97 Cavalier RS

Every 3.4L DOHC and every 3400 pushrod motor came with a crank sensor.
Look in the back of the engine between teh transmission pan and the oil pan.. reach your hand up in there.. It can actually be changed with alot of patience becuase it takes you forever to use your 1/4 socket wrench. but it should be up about half an arms length2014 Chevy Cruise LT

Doesn't the CPS wire run straight to the coil packs? If so, it wouldn't even be in the wiring harness, would it? I'd just pull the wire off of the old motor's coil packs and put it in the new motor. Then part out the old motor and post here.1994 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP Special Edition, Black 5-Speed

The CPS wiring (for the ignition) is not run through the main harness, but is a seperate harness that runs around the engine independantly.
