  • 2.8 tranny/ 3.4 engine

Hello all, i am new to this forum and chevys, and i just got an 86 camaro with 2.8 and auto transmission, but the motor is basically junk(good sized metal chunks in oilpan), so i was wondering if i could bolt a 3.4 engine up to my new 2.8 tranny? if so, what would it take to do the swap? the 2.8 is mpfi, and all i know about the transmission is it is a 4spd auto. any help will be greatly appreciated.

You can put the 3.4 out of a camaro in. I am not sure what year camaro had them though

93-95 Camaros had the 3.4l. It's a pretty popular swap. You can also get a GM HT 3.4l crate engine for a couple thousand dollars that's brand new with a warranty.

          2.8 to 3.4

This is exactly the conversion I am planning on doing this fall. So far I know I want the 3.4, and then I want to do everything to it while minimally impacting the rest of the car. The 3.4 should bolt in, and the accessories should bolt on. the tranny and rear end were the same in '86 fo rthe V-6 and the V-8, so no worries about twisting up the rest of the car.

Upping to a 3.4 and using the 2.8 intake/exhaust will restrict the 3.4. Consider swapping the TBI to a 4.3 unit, and replacing your intake manifold with at least a 3.1, and 3.4 exhaust headers.

I am still trying to find out if I can put better heads on the engine from a 3500, or other V6 - Help, anyone?

Just saw this post, posted on your other one. It is not recomended that you use the heads/intake from a FWD car, otherwise known as the 3x00 motors, due to high compression issues. Your heads and intake will bolt right onto the 3.4 block, and I would recomend doing that if you don't want to use the whole motor from the doner car. Also, a 3.4 DOHC is not a direct bolt in, but if your willing to do some work, that would be a cool option...
