Some of the stock starters (usually the older ones) are larger... in all dinmensions... The little one in the picture is the newest design... Possible that it might fit w/o modifications..

    Cliff,

Could be true, I'm using an old style starter. Seems I read somewhere about the existance of an aftermarket starter that didn't have much of a nose on it that might work as well. The modification to use the old starter just involves grinding off some material inside the left starter pocket...about a 1" by 1" area.

I can also tell you that the shifter on the T5 I'm using comes up through the stock location on the MGB but I had to cut and weld the shift lever at an angle so that it would be centered in the hole and shift into all gears without interference on the sides of the hole.

            Jeremy,

Here they are. It isn't finished yet but it's getting there. I started it for the first time earlier this week.

The short answer is I dunno. The T5's history only goes back to the early 80's and the early models were the Non-World Class or NWC models that were less desirable than later (WC) models.

The guy at 5speeds.com has a forum and you could ask him about the older models.

                    sg,

Thanks. It does look like it belongs doesn't it? That is one reason I choose to go this route. The FWD v660 is such a compact package for the amount of power it is capable of producing.

                        Ok, Now lets talk Computer.
What Kind of computer would be best for my purpoces? ODB II that comes off the 3400 doner car? or some other combonation of sourts.

From what i understnad the ga computer controls the auto Trans, and mounting this to a T5 how would that work?

I put a 3400 in to my 84 cavalier that was carburated, I am running a 89 2.8 computer and it runs great! if you get a 2000+ engine you will have to re-wire the injector harness to match the one of the 2.8/3.1 harness

Well, hate to sound like a broken record, but Dann Wade at killerbv6 has that all worked out too.

I read a thread in a British MG forum (that I found in this site's forum) where Mr. Wade and another fellow who both sell commercial kits were discussing their different approaches to this very question.

Seems Mr. Wade uses an older computer with the newer engine. The way it is done seems well thought out and straight forward.

                            Here's the link:

                              i would use the Gen2 3.1/2.8L ECM (87-94) the 7730 style ecm.

would be the easiest and best way to run the engine, you can get custom tuned chips for them, there is no concern of trying to bypass for a Manual trans with a Autotrans programed computer, its a simple setup, and parts/harnesses available at all wreckers everywhere.

however with using this setup you lose the SFI injection and have a MPFI injection setup. but unless your overly concerned with milage, i wouldnt loose sleep over the loss of the SFI.

Thanks for the tips. I read the link smilinguy put up, its very informative, and Excatly what I was looking for.

Milage is not a problem on this project, MFPI will do just fine.

                                Thanks again guys
