Ya, my van has the 3400. I wanna swap a 3800 in...actually a super charged 3800. I know the old lumina apv's came with 3400's and 3800's non-sc. But i was jw if any1 new if a 3800sc would fit into a venture.

a van site or a 3800 site would probably have more information than a 60V6 site.

all chevy mini vans 97+ came with the 3400. it may be possible to swap in a 3800 supercharged, but its a lot of work, time, and money.

id personaly put a remote mount turbo in it with the 3400. a guy in a j-body did a 3400 swap, remote mount turbo running 12psi with alcohol injection, and ran 12.5, and the motor was all stock. now i know thats a lot harder in a heavy van, but 14s could be possible with a setup like that.

The 3800 shares the same 60 degree bolt pattern as the 3400, so you shouldn't have too many problems with the xmission. However, the engine mounts will probably be in a different location. Also, there may be space issues as the 3800 is a larger engine, but that could be overcome with some cutting/fabbing/moving if necessary.

                  The DOHC is not a 3400, it's a 3.4L

And good luck getting anywhere with a DOHC in a van... no low end torque... I doubt you'd get anywhere. It would bemore worth it to get a 3800 in there... but given the small space in those engine compartments I don't know if you could fit a wide 90* V6 in there.

Good luck... I think you're better off with the 3400 though... or wait till you can find a junked 3500, that'd probably be a better bet.

But a turbocharged 3400 WILL make more power than a 3800SC and be lighter, while getting better gas milage and looking better.

Yes. All GM V6 FWD engines share the same tranny bolt pattern. Hence why you can bolt a 4T65E to a 3100, 3400 and 3800.

So do the RWD 3800's however when it was called the 3.8L (before it saw duty in the Camaro) it used the BOP bolt pattern. But nothing from GM uses that pattern any more.

Good luck stuffing a DOHC into one of these vans. IIRC, GM had the 3800 in these vans up until '95 when they redesigned them, and the new nose was too compact to fit the 3800 and still meet crash standards, so they switched to the 3400. Might be tough to squeeze one in.

True, a 3900, or 3500 would prolly be best bet, or just mod my 3400..
