  • I am a traitor to the 60*V6.. my engine swap (no 56k)

Well I am letting the cat outta the bag.. The old motor is out... and the new motor is on its way in..

The old junk coming out only took about 2 hours to pull it out with out trying to rush the job..

Some of the damage I found when I pulled it... Anyone rag hard on the V6 lately... here's a new one for my to find broken.. I snapped the bracket that holds the steady bearing to the motor.. :S It fell to pieces when I unbolted it..

The clutch has about 40,000 km on it.. It was just about ready to pack it in...

    The New motor...

thats right 2.3LHO! 180hp of pure high reving goodness...

    Preping it for install..

    Down she goes!

have fun with it. Did you get the subframe too ? you gotta eliminate the ac. ON my grand am, I was able to make an awesome idler pulley using the 2.8 tensioner. you should give'er a try.

I saw a Chevette with a Quad 4. That would have been a fun ride.

Looks like you got a good combo there.

ahhhh a quad 4. congrats.. i have been following these motor for about a month now. i like gm iron block/aluminum head dohc motors, so u got brownie points with me.

if u grow tired of it go to www.quad4forums.com they have quite alot of goodies developed. there are a few 233+ horse quad4's running around on there.

when i 1st read the title, i was like "not another l67".

Naww.. my cars something totaly different then the rest of the crowed, so when the opportunitiy for this swap came along I just had to do it... I am on the quad4 forums all ready.. ty for the info though... there is deffinatly some knowledgeable people on there..

So the update for tonight... The old motor came out, cleaned out the engine bay and gutted my ac, and all non essential stuff, prepped the motor and marked all the wiring, put up the lower sub frame and mocked in the motor to get the transmission mount mocked up, had to bend the brake lines and fuel lines out of the way.. Once that was done the motor was in and out another couple of times trying to get the bracket for the tranny mount perfect.. Tomorrow I weld it in place...

I had a similar problem with my intermediate shaft bracket once. Snapped it right at the flange.

              Cool project with the QuadFour.

Oh... You'll miss the V6, that's for sure if you live in an urban area. I much prefer driving my 3400 to my Ecotec.

The car isn't a daily driver.. so I doubt I am going to miss it much...

A small update... I got the tranny mount welded in.. the motor is all bolted in place, lower subframe rails are bolted up and the sway bar has been swapped over..

The quad 4 is a nice engine. If you can, get your hands on a 2.4 and use your HO head on that. Makes for a little more umph.

Before you drop that Quad in, you might want to change all the timing components (gears, chain, tensioner, guides). Once you have it in the car, you'll be cursing at it if you have to remove that timing cover. (heck, the water pump and the starter are a pain as well)
