  • Compatible beretta swaps?

Well I have come to the conclusion that an aluminum bow tie block is pretty much out of my price range and the performance yields probably wouldn't justify the blocks cost. Currently looking into an engine swap that will put the car into a similar performance range as my friends SRT4with turbo upgrade (300hp+ I believe). Currently running a completely stock 3.1L MPFI in the Indy beretta so it really doesn't have any pep. Either that or any suggestions on how to get the current stock engine close to 300 or better yet 350 (400 would be great but thats probably pushing it even with an engine swap). Replacing any of the harnesses or computer wouldn't bother me much since I already have the cars electrical apart. Thanks for looking guys, and excuse my newbery(please resist the temptation to start a flame war like in my last post in the pushrod section).

      ill second that.

as for results: a j body (cavalier/sunbird) with a 3400 swap (engine was untouched), remote mount turbo, 10 psi, methanol injection, mid 12 second 1/4 mile

Ya I been looking into it more and the 3400 seems pretty much like a bolt up swap. Assuming that you would rebuild the engine with all new gaskets, cam upgrade,water/meth ijnection, and intercooled turbo how much boost do you thing the engine could handle without knocking or blowing up(12psi)?

Anyone on the boards make sets up by chance? I'd fab up my own but I don't have a welder on hand (one major tool I'm lacking yet). Other then that I'd like to know about the transmission. I'd like to stick with automatic to keep it as a daily driver, but I don't want it to explode on me when I go to the strip on the weekend for some fun. I was hoping that I could utilize one of the stock 3spds I have laying around by adding a shift kit and maybe a new FD gear but will its fit the 3400.

Heck I'd got for the 3800 swap but the benefits just don't seem to outway the costs, and headaches. I really don't want to swap out the tranny and have to have custom axles made up if I don't have to. Also with the 3400 swap it looks like just a few modifications such as egr, front mount(seems lots of people make these up to order), needing to tap out a heatercore hookup, having the computer recalibrated, longer tb cable, and a new downpipe it just seems like less work and headache in the end. Unless you can convince me otherwise. I'd like to use as much of the original wiring harness as possible which it seems I can do with the 3400 swap just modding a few sensor wire lengths etc. Anyone know if the th-125 will be up to a turbocharged 3400?

3400 Swaps in place of a 3.1L or 2.8L are a piece of cake. Very much worth the money. ECM does not have to be touched on a 3.1L. Infact stock 3.1L programming and fuel presure makes a 3400 run pretty much bang on. I have checked this with a TECH II. Oh and a 3400 will pass emissions better than your 3.1L will.

You'll need to rebuild your 3spd like I am. Stock clutches/band won't handle the power well. I'm sure the tranny needs a rebuild regardless. Just look for some of my old post on the tranny section.

Ya I seen all your posts on the 3t40, but did you have any luck finding a performance rebuild kit thats reasonable enough? I'll have 2 3.1 MPFI's with transmissions at my disposal ( I have a second Indy beretta coming). So I can use one car for parts and testing to eliminate downtime on the daily driver.

Also, to put the 3rd gen intake with the 3T40, you need to get a way to attach the kickdown cable. I've helped on a couple of these using the throttle cable box from a early Quad4 automatic.

                          LOL.. Your kidding?

For what I spent on the rebuild...it doen't come close to some regular rebuilds at a shop....and far less than if you had a performance trans shop do it (IE..TCI, level ten). Look at this way also...some 4t60 guys have to spend almost a $1K on just parts for a good performance build. 5spd swaps would cost just about that much too with a performance clutch system(also consider down time).

Ya I was already figured around 1k for the tranny if I do the rebuild ie reasonable. Oh and thanks cliff for the headsup on the kickdown cable.

Okay well I got my second indy beretta over the weekend and I have the engine it came with swining on my hoist and now I decided to use this beretta for my project because this NC car is pretty much rust free with only minor repairable cosmetic damage. Anyhow I am going to be rebuilding the tranny to begin with and I am just wondering if this master rebuild kit http://www.bulkpart.com/Merchant2/me...roduct_Count=8 plus a superior shift correction kit(same as transgo I hear) will be enough for 3400 or do I need to upgrade anything else (pump shaft, gears etc). Also what about TQ? Last but not least I am curious if anyone has pictures of the quad 4 kickdown cable mod to make the swap compatible with my tranny.

Ok so to recap I need to get a rather complete pre 03' 3400 engine(anything specific accessories wise I need that I can't get off my 3.1?), rebuild my 3t40 to handle the new found power maybe some updated tranny cooler as well, adapt kickdown cable with quad 4, use EGR adapter plate , extend a few sensor wires (I believe it was just the crank position sensor), swap in my 3.1 injectors, new down pipe?, motor mounts, and also something about tapping out an unthreaded 1/2 hole with a 1/2 NPT pipe tape( believe its for heatercore). Am I leaving anything crucial out if so please LMK. I'd say this is my first serious undertaking, but I feel like giving this all a go(building and taking things apart is one my fav things to do hehe).
