  • new motor for the z24?

ever sence the motor in my z24 locked up, I've been torn betwen junking the car, or putting a new motor in it and fixin it up.(btw it needs a lot o fixin)I can find 3x00's in the junkyard all day long, but one thing that stops me from gitting one is evry swap site i've seen says you need custom mounts the put the 3x00 in,I don't see why you can't use the front cover and motor mounts from the gen 2 motor on the gen 3?

the mounts that it needs bolts to the block. the actual casting of the block is differnt so the one you have doesnt bolt to it. i think you need the oil pan as well, and that might be the deciding factor in the timing cover selection.

you could swap in a 3.1 and start with that, go hybrid, or just slap a turbo on with modest boost, that would be fun. thats what i should have done...

As stated the mount bolts to the block, not the front cover.

The oil pan does not need to be changed, in fact it can't be, bolt pattern is VERY different in the genIII 660

so you have to use the 3x00 pan?
        how about the timing cover?
is it just the front mount that needs fabbed up or the rear too?

i can get a 3100 for $100, so im jumpimg on it, i just need to figure out the "how" to make it fit someday.

How is the raven, did you finish it? i was dormant for a while, i pobably missed it.

so the blocks mounting points are diferen't on the gen 2 & gen3 motors?
(IE the gen 3 dosn't have the bosses for the gen 2 mounts?)

The whole 3400 fits really nicely in a Cavalier. Chris's mount is sweet. Buy it. I can vouch for its effectiveness

Um I think it is on www.domesticcrew.com or something.

2.8L computer will run the 3400 yes. However it is probabally best to change to a 3.1L chip and injectors if possible. Or better yet go custom chip.

Plates are not a problem to adapt the EGR. With a chunk of 1" aluminum you could make one.

My 3400 is still running acceptably on the 2.8 computer and chip, the EGR is blocked off, there's no really good way to fit it in there. And to switch to the 3.1 chip, you'll have to change the EGR over to the digital one.

also depending on the year, to change to a 3.1l ecm, you may need to change the wiring harness.

the 3x00 will run fine off a 2.8l ecm.
