    hey all,

    here are some pics of the engine I bought. It's out of a 96 monte and its going into my 95, it comes with the coilpack, manifold already. I was going to swap my ac compressor and alternator, etc from my dead Z. Are those parts interchangeable? I got a used obd II computer from the donor car to replace my current OBD I or 1.5 system. As far as the wiring goes should be a jiffy because I am stripping out all existing components from my '95 config and replacing them with some of the parts from the '96 donor car. Don't really want to rig much up because I'm worried about electrical fires so I want to convert everything over. Got the engine out of the 95 and doing everything right from the start, I just don't want to spend the money on new parts if I can transfer some over from my old motor. Let me know if you guys see anything on this motor that might need consideration. Appreciate it.

    Engine looks fine. Im not sure I would swap that computer in but everything else should be good to go.

      are you planning on changing the timing belts and other things before you put it in? i assume you are considering this because of what you said but it would be a crime not to.

        yep I am going to change the t-belt and all gaskets, check everything out. it's a fairly low mileage motor, its just been sitting for the past year. I may as well change the ecm to a obd II compliant one instead of using the old obd 1.5 system because the 96 dohc replacement engine is obdII. There are probably wiring differences to the fuse boxes too, so I may as well use all of those components from the 96Z donor car and strip the whole 95 system out of my 95.
        Wouldn't there be problems with the emissions, electrical systems, fuse boxes let alone to the dash without a ECM/PCM and wire harness swap..? thanks for any advice, I haven't been able to properly explain the situation before without more pics, seems to me that dohcfiend had a heck of a time getting his 94z to work with the 96 motor, otherwise I would just do a direct swap and not ask questions! Seems that should be it though, everything else "just hooks up"

          if youre planning on possibly turboing it in the future, it would be better to try and stick with the obdI or 1.5 since it is map based and easier to turbo and tune. good luck with that. id be more help if you were doing a L67 swap instead of an LQ1 because i have done that before, but not a 96+ LQ1 into a pre-96

            The motor it's self doesn't care what computer system is used to make it run so much.. what motor did you have in your old car?
