  • 3.1L in Datsun

Hi, here a big question.I'm the owner of a sunbird 3.1L engine. It's heavily modified, more than 200hp. Now I want to put my motor in my datsun 510 1970. Since it's a dastun, I have no choice but to fabricate special motor/trans mounts. ( FWD or RWD block). THE QUESTION: I need to know if I can rotate the intake 180 degree with the head or not? If they will work?

I was thinking of another solution, can I put all the good stuff from my sunbird's engine in a RWD block? But, if I can, I prefere to work with my FWD block, ( head are ported and three angle valve job, bigger oil pass, modified computer, special injection rail, blueprint, hot cam, 10.5 ratio versus 8.5 ratio, etc...). It's a torquer monster!

    thanks anybody for your help.

    P.A.

Yes you can rotate the intake. Infact I thing you can do it on ANY "V" engine since heads are symetrical.

You can't on all V engines, like SBC, since the end rails are different and the distributer shaft passes through the intake, SBF is the same way, and quite a few others.

But yes the genII (and genIII) intakes can be rotated to place the TB at the belt end of the engine.

Yes, you can use all FWD internals and top end on a RWD block, as long as the RWD bock is '86 or newer for the larger main journals.

you can rotate the intake and use just the front timing cover, water pump, balancer, and pulleys/brackets off a RWD motor.

is it a 2 door 510? I'd love to do a BRE replica with a Blacktop VVT, that would be a pretty nice ride.

Oh right the dizzy goes through the intake manifold.

Ohwell. I'll chalk that up to another advantage of a 660.
