The computer isnt gonna give you 281 hp. 9500 from valve springs...yipee...lotta good that does if you don't have any power there (or you can be ultra cool and kill your low end and put a box on your lower and call it a plenum...nevermind your car weighs 500 or more pounds over the fiero that the guy did that to). 300 hp at the crank wont take 9500 RPM but it will take some effort and modifications galore. Oh, and twin turbo...where in the hell are you gonna put those, the glove box? Stick with the single turbo or make it RWD so you have some real room.
My w body being a track car, I don't care about low end power. What's most important to me is throttle response, shape of power band, amount of power, from most important to less.
The bottom line is that this is a long term project. It has been and always will be. I race autocross at track so I've pretty much worked on cornering effectively in a w car untill now. But I've come to a point where power is mostly my bottleneck.
If anyone else wants the ability to turn, I will share my research.
1. Everything begins and ends with the driver. There is no substitue for skills. I have beaten mini-cooper s' at the track with original suspension (came with the car in 1990) that had fluid leaked out of the strut cartridges.
2. Sticky tires are the key to dropping times fast and are necessary to support further handeling improvements.
3. Use stiffer springs instead of bigger sway bars.
4. Adjust your driving style to suit the car. It's FWD, and it's heavy. That's not going to fundmentally change.
5. It's all in the racing line and forced weight shifting of the car and the two are not independant for good results.\'90 Cutlass with \'95 3.4 DOHC V6

I just remembered. One of my friends has a SVT Contour as his daily driver. It has great torque and top end with the secondary intake runners. I don't know if he cares about low end power but he wouldn't notice if it wasn't there. His entertaining driving style is: rev it up to redline, dump the clutch, shift when the needle gets over red paint, and repeat often as necessary. It's strange because that's the way he drives around town "normally". I'd be happy with pressing on the accelerator and nothing really happening untill I get to 6 grand and then the wheels breaking loose because of coming on to cam.
Supercharged cars are cool with the wide/smooth power band. N/A cars are cool with the excellent throttle response. Turbo cars are cool with that sh*t spools up and it feels like it hits like you are parked on the interstate and a semi rear ends you doing 70 when boost comes on.
Is it wrong to get a chubby from a car?

Hey fellow Middle Tennessee person. I am from Murfreesboro TN and a member of Tennesspeed. I own a 1995 GTP also.
You hang around some STRANG people also. Dumping the clutch at Redline is a huge NO NO! I bet he has to replace his trans and clutch about every month. What kind of Imports do your friends own?
That article you read is horrible. 281HP was what the FWD Camaro Concept would have had which would have used a 3.4DOHC but we don't have that 3.4DOHC setup and don't know how they got that power so don't ask how. If you want power then ask SappySE107 on here and also do a search for performance parts.
As for your problem I don't know. Good luck with it though.1995 Pontiac GTP
Over $12K invested, and still its slow. Maybe thats because thats most all repairs. Don\'t knock the engine though, because thats the only part that has seemed to last.

Hey! The 'boro isn't far from here. Tennesspeed? What do they do? I'm a member of the TRSCCA (www.trscca.com). I do hang around some strange people. And crazy part is that they think I'm werid too.... He's never had to replace a clutch or a transmission, but he's only had the car for about a year. He has some small 225-50R16 tires, the Yokohama ES100 (treadwear 200) that constantly break loose (and easily with around 200 horse).
Cars my crew owns in random order: FC RX-7 Turbo II, FC RX-7 (N/a), S12 200SX Turbo, Merkur X4Ti (if you can call it an import), Mark II Supra turbo, assorted first gen civics, integra ls (after boxy body style), integra (gs I think), '95 maxima. These are the folks I see most often. All of them in varying states of tune from stock daily driver to gutted/intercooled/more boost.
I can't get beat by them. The integra ls and 200sx has managed to stay ahead of me, but that will change come spring time with this new engine and the Z34 suspension.

Its a car forum for Speed Freaks of Tennessee. They have get togethers, go to the track together, and basically bag on each other. If you join up then prepare to take alittle crap since to these people if you don't run 12's or faster then you are own a turd of a car. Even at 12's you are just decent. You probably have seen them ALOT though since you have been to crossville to race. They go there all the time.
Have any of your friends been to the track yet? Who is the fastest?1995 Pontiac GTP

I think my buddy with the 200sx is the fastest and he runs high 14's. Sad I know. But I agree that if you don't run 12's you have a slow car. And 12's aren't anything special. We pretty much go to the track to pratice our launch and get an estimate of how much power our cars have. The 200sx dude got his car weighed so it's more accurate for him. Really just 200sx, me, and another guy driving a crown vic (like from blues brothers) visit the drag strip.
After I get this car running, I'll be there a few times to get a feel for the difference in power from before and after the swap. I usually get beat by all the other Cutlasses though. Mostly because they are RWD, V8, and their exhaust is so loud that it makes the inside of my door rattle with my windows up and he's idling.
I usually go on 'import night' so I can beat some kiddies that totally suck. I'm all about running as many times as I can. The last time I went I took like 14 passes.
Just curious, is there a listing on 60v6 of who's got the fastest cars and their times? I want to get my time on there so I can be highly visibile in last place. How fast is your 12 grand GTP? Are you running 14 psi boost and 13's?
My crew and I talk smack to each other all the time. It helps motivate and it's fun. If any of that bleeds through onto here, just call me on it.
There are N/A grand prixs that run 14's...

We dont have a list here for that. Id have to break it down by platform and non GM platforms or go by vehicle weight. Too much trouble for this site to deal with. If I were to do anything it would be dyno sheet comparisons since that takes out the car and leaves just the transmission and engine to consider.Ben

My 12grand GTP does even make it to the track and I would be lucky to break out the 15's if I did probably. That money is in mods, Repairs, and maintnence not includeing fluid changes, or Tires!
I need to take my arse to the track, but need to get the GTP running good before that. That damn thingi s always broke!1995 Pontiac GTP

The '95 ECM won't work? SHould have used the '96 to go with the '96 wiring harneses under the hood?

I apologize for being retarted. I don't know much about anything mechanical, I just want to drive the Cutlass. The car drives ME to do this.
The impression I got from posts of other people is that just just swapped in a different engine used the computer and wiring that goes with the new engine and it just simply plugged into the firewall connector and turned the key and drove off to a new personal fastest speed. Is my impression wrong?\'90 Cutlass with \'95 3.4 DOHC V6

I tried the remote start idea. It caused the engine to turn over slow. About just over 2 cylinders opening exhaust valves/second. I did use a gimpy 14 awg wire to activate the starter solenoid and the wire already in place looks like 10 awg. I don't know if that's the cause for the engine to turn over slow, however. The battery checked out at 12.64 volts. Without a 2nd person, I didn't get a chance to check it while cranking. It was interesting when I checked the screw terminals that connect to the battery from the batter cable - I couldn't get a voltage reading. Usually they conduct electricity and that's why my posititve connector has a plastic cap on it to cover it for normal use.
It didn't start. I had the key in the run position. But I didn't want it to start just yet. I pulled the fuel injector fuse in the pass. under hood panel. This is a motor that's been sitting for a year. And I was told that I should keep it from starting and turn it over untill the oil pressure builds and then start it.
Man, it feels to hear the engine turn over. It makes me feel like I'm making progress.
So, I gotta figure out why the engine turns over slow, connect the 2nd positive branch of the battery cable to the fuse panel, and try this again with the key. And if that doesn't work with the remote start with bigger awg wire.
<-- always welcome to recommendations
