  • 2.8l to 3.4l

    1985 GMC S-15 Ext cab 2.8 auto

Wanting to swap out my 2.8 for the 3.4. And also swap to a 5-speed.

I'm under the assumption that everything is a direct fit from 2.8 to the 3.4.

The 2.8 has the fuel pump mounted to the block and is v-belt setup.
I don't have much time to search for every little detail and can't afford to have any mayor setbacks. My window of opportunity is coming up soon and I'll have exactly 2 weeks to get the project done. Is this something that can be done in 2 weeks. I imagine that if it's just a direct swap then I'll be done in a a day or so.(planned on buying a crate engine.)
Will my external fuel pump mount to the 3.4? If not what can I do to make it work with the carburetor? (If that's possible) What about balancing? Internal or External? Flywheel and harmonic balancer?
Am I getting in over my head?

If anymore info is needed just let me know. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

All your questions should be answered here. The author is around this forum somewhere.

3.4L will be internally balanced, you'll want to pair it with a newer neutral balanced flywheel. No place for your mechanical pump, so plan on going electric. Otherwise it should be a bolt-in.
