  • Alternator questions

Hi everyone. Sorry if this seems a little off topic for swaps but honestly I figure this would probably be the best place for it. I have a 2005 Pontiac g6 I think my alt is bad and I just can't afford a new or reman'd. It's the 3500 non vvt engine. I've been trying to find cross reference list for comparable alts from different vehicles but not having any luck. With all the swapped going on I figured someone would know what cars I can pull an alternative from at a scrap yard. My apologies and thanks for all who respond.

if you want a quick though not completely descript idea of what will and won't directly interchange, look up what you have on rockauto.com. you can find what all cars the exact part would be in, though vehicles that have multiple, distinctly different engines can make the info less useful.

a lot of the times you'll be able to find the factory part number though.... if you google that, you can usually find interchange info that way as well.

If you can find one from a 3400 or 3100 that uses the same wiring, you can swap the bracket and alternator to bolt it up.
