  • 3x00 in a vibe?

I'm a Pontiac guy and have been thinking of buying a used Vibe for a daily driver but I know I don't like 4 bangers well I've been thinking...... Anyone know of any 3x00 swaps into one? A 3400 or 3500 with a 6-speed from a g6 might be pretty sweet

I think the Vibe's drivetrain is mostly made by Toyota. A 3x00 swap would probably be a rather big project as a result.

Maybe Toyota offers a V6 that bolts to the stock transmission?

It's entirely possible or you could swap the entire powertrain from say, a Camry. Toyota makes a car called the Blade which is a Vibe/Matrix derivative with the big 2.4L engine but there is an optional 3.5L V6 model called the Blade Master. That same 2GR-FE 3.5L engine was used in the 2005+ Avalon, 2006+ RAV4 and Sienna, 2007+ Camry/ES350/RX350, 2008+ Highlander, and 2009+ Venza.

These are not cheap engines. Car-Part.com has ten pages of them $2000 and up and the cheapest running/tested one that isn't burnt or wreck damaged is $1700 in Shelbyville IN at Randy's.

If you pick out an older Vibe/Matrix model like an 03-06 then you could try out the 1MZ-FE 3.0L V6 from the older Avalon/Camry/others. Those can be found running with high mileage for $600-$700 or real nice for $1000-$1300. Just remember that's the engine Toyota had sludging problems with. Probably need to rewire most of the car and it would be a mess. If I ever get a 97-99 Camry sedan and get bored with it, maybe a 3100 swap is in order. Or an LS4 V8. Or if I've gone completely eccentric by then, a Northstar.

There's a couple people who have added turbos to the stock 1.8 or 2.4 engines but nothing OEM. YouTube has a few videos. GenVibe and MatrixOwners forums have threads about it.

I like the idea of a V6 equipped Vibe. It would be very much an R32 Golf killer if done right. Remember the R32 is a 3400lb beast and a 4-cylinder Vibe is 2700 or so. The 1MZ-FE weighs 401lbs fully dressed with accessories. The stock 1ZZ-FE 4-cylinder is around 225lbs for just the long block, I imagine dressed out it's around 300lbs. An extra 100lbs up front would be easily offset with battery relocation and maybe some lightweight control arms.
