  • Late 90s/early 2000s 3400 into N-Body?

    1. How much engine bay reshaping would be required to fit a 3400 from a Grand Am into a 1995 Buick Skylark N-body? Would I be able to use the Grand Am's engine mounts?

    2. Would it bolt up to the existing automatic transmission or would I need a bellhousing from a 3400 car?

    3. I would be converting the car to OBD-II. How intensive is this? How much of the wiring would have to be replaced?

The 95-98 Grand Ams, Skylarks, and Achievas were available with a 3100 V6. I don't see any reason a 3400 would have any trouble fitting under the hood, between the shock towers, using the same mounts, bolting up to the transmission, all that. Your biggest issue will be wiring to convert to OBDII and make the 3400 and ECM happy. I can't think of any Buick products using the 3400, but if you can get the entire Grand Am for parts, you could splice the whole car harnesses together and include the BCM of the Grand Am among other things.
