Ok, so my inlaws have a 1991 Buick Regal 3.1 with a blown engine and tranny. They don't want to spend much at all to fix it up. So I was looking around their land yesterday and found a 1991 Olds 88, with a good 3800 and tranny. Since the Regals were available with the 3.8, how simple of a swap could/should it be? Anyone have any schematics? I have access to them if I want to pay, but figured I'd try the free way first. Anyway, I know I'll have to change the PROM to a 3.8 Regal one, and possibly a few wiring/pin changes... but anyone else know any complications I might come across?

mout locations might be a problem. let me see there will be a difference in the airboxes so a fenderwell cai or an air intake tube will solve that. coilpack location is different (maybe i don't know where the 3.1 coilpacks are). that may or may not be a problem. i am pretty sure your exhaust will not just bolt up either.
this is just stuff off of the top of my head. i am not a tech by trade(just a 1/2 ass tech by necessity) if it helps u great but most likely u know this stuff alreadyThe Official Rotating Mass Nazi

The good thing about the Regal is that it came w/ the 3800 in 91. Everything you need, you can get from GM. Unfortunately I only have fiche for the GrandPrix, which wont show all the parts you're gonna need. The wiring harness should plug right in as long as there are no special gadgets the 88 got that the regal didnt. Most i see you having to change:
Mounts
heater hoses (may route diff)
If the fuse boxes and battery are in diff locations on the 88, then that stuff will have to move.
most everything you should be able to pull from the 88I modify stuff
