Does anyone know of a way or heard anyone putting a 2005 Pontiac g6 3.5 engine in a 1990 cavalier; we have circle track dirt cars. We have two 90 cavaliers, one has a 2.2 4 cyl in and the other had a 3.1 then changed it to the 3100 out of a Buick. We have the 3100 done worked fine but is there a way to put a 3.5 in the cavaliers. Thanks for any help in advance.

It'll bolt up to the auto trans just fine, just know that the TH125c is not a strong trans in stock form.
Since you have the car/engine already the cost would be fairly cheap... but it depends on a few things. First, are you going to use the stock Cavalier computer? If so then you should get a tuned chip for the 3500 to make the most power. Those vary in price but TMK i'm the only one that sells a 3500 chip. A few guys sell 3400 chips but the 3500 is a little more thirsty.
You'll need an external crankshaft trigger from British Car Conversions, need a new front motor mount (pretty easy to make) and some assorted small stuff.. Since you already have a 3100 in there just re-use the same fuel rail, hoses and other small parts. I can't see you spending over a grand, If you're crafty you'll be down under $500. Heck, you could even modify your 3100 mount.. That's all i did, i went from a 3.1 to a 3400 then a 3500 in a 91 Cavalier.

The transmission has been out of this car before and has been professionally taken apart and they did some work, Honestly I don’t remember exactly but I know it had work, I believe he also but some B&M Racing stuff in there or something, anyway I will try it and if it still doesn’t handle I will change over, were thinking about this anyway because when we come off the turns it should kick down into passing gear to give us the high pulling rpm to take off. the picture in my signature are out two cavaliers, the red one has the 3100 conversion but the red white and blue one has well had a 2.2 4 cyl single fuel injected then we changed it to multiport injected, we received the car free with the motor in it, so when changed it over a few weeks ago to try to go from 90 horse power to 110 I believe and it worked but this past weekend the bearings in the motor failed and it blew up, so we have options of dropping a 2.2 ecotech in a 3100 or a 3.5 if it would work but since it would work I think we should know where we are going. So I’m doing this from a 2.2 car but the building the brackets and all are no big deal. When there’s a welder there’s a way (haha). I mean the cars are exactly the same and transmissions are the same and all that. So there shouldn’t be a problem changing this. as far as the computer, I will have the computer and wiring harness with the 3.5 out of the 05 Pontiac it’s a complete car. Will the computer with that motor be fine or would you suggest the v6 3100 computer with a chip? And a fuel rail and all that we can get from our sponsors cheap so seven though I don’t have an extra 3100 it’s not hard to get them. However I also have another wrecked car, I have a 97 or 98 Buick park avenue with a 3.8 will i need any parts of the 3.8 if so I can take them from there. Also how much would it cost to get an external crank shaft? Thank you so much this saves us the hassle of taking this out and trying it to find out if it would work. Thanks again.Coty
