  • Swap questions....rwd/auto into Volvo, 3.5/3.9?

I just bought a 67 Volvo amazon wagon and am planning an engine swap. This will not be my first swap....currently about to finish a LS1 into a BMW 5 series.

Anyway the Volvo engine bay is pretty narrow so i have been drawn to the 60 degree v6 as it will fit and keep the car light upfront.

I have a few questions when picking an engine/trans combo.

I have a few requirements first.....
Must be an automatic, 4l60e would be best over the 700r4.
Must be able to add cruise, drive by wire would be nice if I can add cruise without much trouble.
I plan on running AC....the car does not have power steering but it might get added. Might not be really needed tho as it is pretty light.

I would really like 200hp/tq or more or very close to that. I want a alum headed engine as well.

Is it possible to use the wiring and everything from the la9 or ln9 and use the rwd 4l60e?

What is my best route with this combo?

I do have hptuners if it ends up being a obdii setup. I would prefer the most modern PCM and engine I can get as long as it can be made it can be made to work with the rwd setup.

This will end up being my wife's DD.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Wow, almost like I am reading my own post. Sad nobody responded.
I'd read up on MG sites and even Opel GT sites. I'm leaning toward the 60* for my wifes 66 Amazon also.

haha crazy...I am actually going a different route and planning a TDI swap into the amazon. But the Amazon is way down the list for projects. A honda powered classic mini will happen first.

A guy in Sandy Oregon started a TDI swap in an Amazon. http://www.ovtuners.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=3738

Not sure where its gotten, he was talking about switching to Toyota power. Anyway theres the link. ^

I would imagine you could use a workig harness from 3500 complete and possibly re-pin the trans harness to control the 4l60e, as it is the same plug and the trans works very similar. Other wise your on the right track all by yourself

          Its runs!!!>>>Aint No 60* Sound Like Mehttp://youtu.be/YKEmNwa141U

Iirc the 3900 PCMs are actually supported by Hptuners, however I'm not sure anyone has ever tried a swap with that PCM.
