    They are showing up at wreckin yards for around $1000-1500 with under 3000 miles on them.

      No. They are pushrods, just like the 3400.

            Cause the 3500 is .4L bigger than the 3100 that was in the old malibu's.

            3500 makes 200HP : 00+ 3x00 170HP.
            Cleaner emisions, better gas milage, and the words "new and improved" are selling points.

              Why are we using 3x00s at all? Why not just use iron headed Gen1 2.8's with small journals breathing through a 2bbl carb?

                      Research, maybe some fabrication of mounts, wiring diagrams possibly.

                        TB adapter plate, a plug or welding for the IAC location on the plenum, possibly the computer or a sensor change for the CPS. Hard to say what all is needed till someone has the motor to compare things with.
