  • Engine Blown....Time for Lx9?

So, roughly 500 feet from my house, below a hill that I had to push the car up with a buddy of mine, my engine blows. No more D,1,2 or 3.
I have heard that 3400 are more expensive then a 3500 (lx9-Which cars am I looking at for that engine?).
Anyway, I figure I might as well get a better more reliable engine while I have to have a new one.
    Anyway.
What extra parts do I need for this swap? I will be taking the entire transmission and motor if possible and just dropping it in where the 3400 used to be. I know I need around 3 parts is it? I think around $200 it used to be for the swap kit.

Anyway, asking which cars I need to look at, if the 3500 with the kit is the cheaper way to go (Including labor for both sides-although I may have someone who can do it for free) and a link to the kit I need, and if I can buy the locally or only on the website.
Thanks so much for the help.

well first off what car is this going in?

for sure your gonna need a crank trigger thats like around 175 with shipping. get it from wot-tech.com the rest i can answer when you tell me what car your wanting to swap the motor in?

i just got done about 2 months ago, swapping a 3500 into my beretta. i opted for the 3500 for a way better motor than the 3400 plus it was cheaper all in all. it cost my roughly 700 with oil, coolant, a fuel line, all the gasket i needed. if i would of just bought a 3400 it would of cost me 650 so yea, thats not with gaskets, oil, coolant anything.

and i got my motor out of a 04 malibu, but wikipedia has a list of all the vehicle that had the lx9. get the lx9 not the vvt motor. you can tell if its vvt or non vvt is by the uim. if its like a rectangle its the lx9 if it indents in to a point on the pulley side its the vvt motor. too much work to make that work.

      2003 Pontiac Grand Am.
      Oil smells like gasoline.
I was told the parts for this swap are fairly cheap around $250 for all of it, that it would not need a pcu tune, but would run a lot better with one.
Also, am I able to take the whole entire 3500 motor? or is it just the engine, and I have to find a 3400 transmission.
By the way, I still have R,N, and P.
So, I think there is some life left to it, aside from the oil, which I know to be a leak in the engine, either a gasket or a cracked block maybe.
I have yet to take the engine apart since I am not mechanically inclined, and my friend who is, is away for a couple of weeks on a trip.

So, with that information stated, where do we go?

          Go to milzymotorsports.com

          click "Specials"

You will see the 3500 swap kit that comes with all of the parts you will need for the swap.

I just did a swap myself in my 03 GA and I love it!

            Yeah, 285 plus shipping.
Is it any extensive extra labor to install the kit?
I just drop the motor right on then?

Still waiting fir the car to be looked at....
I am hoping it is just a motor issue and not a transmission issue....
Any input on the symptoms described?

Just so you know, if the motor ain't running perfect, you can't diagnose a transmission.

It just seemed like the right thing to say at the moment. Actually I know and like Colin. Just calling him out for stirring up trouble.
