I have a 1998 monte with the 3100 in it. I'm looking at getting a 3.4 DOHC from a 1996 monte carlo that has 88,000 miles on it. What all do I need for it to work. If the stock ecu will work but not as well as the 3.4's that will be fine for me now. I know the tranny is the same but what about wiring harness, fuel lines, vaccum lines ect...

Turbos help with that though, lol. The DOHC reacts well to boost, too.-60v6's 2nd Jon M.

I was waiting to hear him say something about the timing belt breaking after running it for 120k miles without changing it, or it running bad because he never changed the rear spark plugs because they are too hard to get too, or something along those lines. lol. The usual kind of neglect that causes people to dislike the DOHC.-Matt

If you can't take care of a car, don't expect it to take care of you, lol. It's not rocket science.-60v6's 2nd Jon M.

AND these 3x00 motors were designed to easily go 400,000 miles plus IF they are allowed to warm up some before people dog it. People complain about piston slap not realizing it is a good thing, sort of.
Plus the 60°v6 design angle versus the 90°v6 has a perfect division of 60° per cylinder. Meaning no heavy balancers needed on the crank. Also making it more compact saving valuable space in the bay.
I consider these 3x00 engines a stroke of genius (mixed with a few instances of GM insanity)
