  • 2001 grand am gt want to use 3400 LNG china built

can i use a 3400 LNG(from a 2006 pontiac torrent) engine in this car? its the china built engine, knowing that i will need to change the upper and lower intakes, probally the exhaust manifolds, oil pan, and also the front timing cover???? am i missing anything???? what about a crank sensor/trigger??? Found one of these engines low milage and cheap!

Welcome to the site. Don't see any reason why you'd need to change the oil pan, but everything else sounds about right. And yes, you'd have to do something with the crank trigger, as it is a different setup than what your ignition system can deal with. Being as that you already have a 3400, what's the reason for the swap?

the reason is because the 3400 in there had the lower manifold leaks and the last owner didnt catch it and it got the crank bearings what would be the best setup for a crank trigger??

I just responded to your PM, but for any one else who finds this thread in the future, you'd have to go with an external crank trigger, like the one WOT-Tech sells: http://wot-tech.com/shop/all/externa...r/prod_42.html

good. have u thought about a 3500 swap since you have to get a crank trigger anyways. itd be more worth it than to swap in another 3400. especially one that you have to swap parts from
MODS: DS CAI, TCE 65 mm tb, TCE AFPR, TCE LS lifter springs, WOT ported UIM and LIM, 3500 heads, comp cams valve springs locks and retainers, 1393 grind cam, S&S headers, custom 2.5 in catback, flowmaster 80 series , no rez, and to top it all off, an MPR tune. Among misc gauges and appearence things

I don't know this to be a fact but was told that the China made 3400's use the same heads as the LX9 and the same mounting bosses as the 3400. If this is true, they would be a simpler swap than the LX9 but still have some decent power gains.
