Yep. Should be a pretty direct swap, considering they are both W-bodies.

Oh, and welcome to the forums!

Thanks for the welcome. My friend at the salvage yard says according to thier cross reference guide they do not interchange. He could not tell me why they will not cross though.

What's blown on the 03 engine? Usually, if you have both engines, you can easy compare them side by side and swap any parts necessary from the old to the new. I know with some engines like this, mainly between different body types, things like the front cover is different. There is a change in the cam trigger between the years, but we have seen that the sensor still generates the appropriate signal to send to the PCM, so that doesn't matter. There may be other little changes between the years, but I can't think of anything that will not allow it to be swapped in.

The 2002 engine has a cracked block it got overheated bad. The 2003 Monte is wrecked but the engine still runs.

Along with a cracked block, I'm sure the heads aren't in the greatest shape either. But, those are items that wouldn't need to potentially be swapped over, so no biggie there. I highly doubt it, but items like the lower and upper intake manifold might need to be swapped as there were changes over the years between them. But most changes that would typically affect people are going from lower years (93-99) to higher years (00+).

Actually, I just remembered some old info we had on the site, which talked about the changes to the 2003 3400: http://60degreev6.com/forum/showthre...3400-%28la1%29

As you can see, its nothing really that should not allow for a direct swap.
