  • 60 degree into older BMW

Okay, so I'm just thinking, but it's got my interest. I have an '87 325e and while the inline 6 is cool, I couldn't help but think about swapping in a 3.4 with 5 speed from a Camaro. Seems like wiring would be the biggest issue, but the compact size of the 60 degree would make a great weight distribution and be a great platform for turboing. Are there any online wiring diagrams for say, a '93 or so Camaro. I'm wondering what wires would be able to be matched up to the BMW. Alright, enough of my heresy!

The only thing I would change in that combo is swap the 3.4 for a 3500 non-vvt. You start out with a more powerful engine and much more set up for performance and potential that way. ForcedFirebird may be able to help you out. I believe this is the route they are going for this years $2011 race car challenge.

Yeah I like the 3500 but not sure about the RWD setup with the mounting to the t5 and starter. I'll check into finding forced firebird, as I wonder if he is one and the same as another member on one of the BMW boards. Thanks for the reply!

He is. We aren't doing the 60V6 in a BMW for 2011. 2012. 3500 into an E30 is what I want to do now. John is already sorting the details to make the 3500 work in an E30.

It surely can't be any harder than me swapping a 3500 into a Mustang. For you, the T5 is easy, as there is a bellhousing available to bolt one up to a FWD engine.

              What BMW board?

Got an '86 eta Sport myself 134rwhp 145rwtq with that 2.7 that was rated 127bhp/170btq using stock BMW parts

The 60v6 swap won't be bad at all, for simplicity I would start with a 3400 only because the JY parts are plug and play for the most part.

although I love the 60degreev6s, if there was an inline 6 already, the 4200 i6 would be awesome!! A great starting point too with the 2006+ making 291hp.

The 4200 is a big tall and heavy truck motor. It is taller than a Jeep/AMC I6

Not only that, but when you are talking BMW, you have max effort engines. There's much smaller displacement engines making more power than that - even the old school "big six' 3.5l in the early 80's made 225hp/250tq with the old single cam tech, but they are heavy. 3500 v6 would be the way to go imo.

It can't be that tall, there is a guy that has one swapped into a third gen supra.....

And I think it is pretty effecient making over 1hp per cu. inch in stock form....

That's cool about the bellhousing. Where can these be found because that was one of the things I thought might be a problem for the FWD engine?
