Tie off the hood somewhere so that it stays vertical or just take off the hood completely. Easiest way I've done it in the past.

the hoods the least of my worries. im talking like do i need to unbolt some trans mounts to be able to move it or can i leave the trans compltely bolted down and work around it. because the engine has to come off the trans a good few inches before it can be pulled up.

Besides any trans mounts that bolt to the engine, I have never loosened or taken off any trans mounts when pulling the engine. L-bodies should be similar to N-bodies as far as engine bays go. I know it gets really tight on the passenger side trying to get it past the fenderwell, it you can do it.

you can get that back 18MM with a few extensions from the passenger side fenderwell, the AC compressor should slide down out of the way, check that everything is undone, and clear about 3 or 4 times, i alsmost always forget something. except the last time i did it. and if it looks like it could accidentally break with removal, just remove it. as in the rear O2 sensor. pulling off the alternator will help to, and put a jackstand under the transmission to keep it level while you pull out the motor, otherwise it will lean over and take up that little bit of space on ther passenger side.

The braket on the tranny to the motor on the passenger is best to remove completely, IDK if that was asked but its answered

Yup, after taking off engine mounts, roll the engine forward and grab off the alt in a fwd motor pull.
