I've got a '98 Lumina that needs a new engine. I'm thinking 3400 and have read the downloadable swap guide. Everything that I see in there seems very easily do-able. I'd like to do a 3500 swap as I can get one of them dirt cheap, but it seems that you have to buy a different throttle body, the external crank sensor, and a different set of manifolds to line up with the stock exhaust. Is there any workarounds for not buying these items? This is a junk yard slap together just to see if I can get it to work, not a high dollar driver.

You can use your exhaust manifolds, but you need a 3400 upper with throtle body. This would be the cheapest way. you still need the external crank sensor. You also need to tap the lower intake to except the older ECT sensor or there are some ohter way to deal with this also. but I think taping it is the easiest.

Here's what I'm thinking cost wise
3500 engine: $300
External Crank Sensor: $150
3400 Upper intake: $50
3400 throttle body (if I can't get the yard to include it in the intake): $25
Upper intake gasket set: $20 from wot-tech
Roughtly $550 gets me a '98 lumina sporting a 3500
I bought the car for $150 bucks, so $700 all told
