  • 95 monte 3.4 into a 94 grand prix 3100 car

Is this a direct swap if you take the wiring harness, computer, etc from the Monte and put it down in the Grand Prix? What all has to be changed in order to make this swap work?

electrically, it's not direct, but it is a VERY similar setup.

I've searched the forum looking for a write up or article to clarify. Which pins are different coming through the firewall on each? Where would we find the information that we need to complete the swap or is this going to be trial and error?

Also, what wires are required to make an lq1 run right? I mean the absolute minimum wiring necessary? We are thinking about plopping one down in a sand rail just for kicks and giggles. From what I can tell, you need your battery cables, a hot wire to the computer, a hot wire to the starter, and from there you're golden.

no article yet, but i have been considering throwing a 94-95 LQ1 PCM in the MC, which would be a very similar process electrically to what you would have to do.

the firewall connector(C100) is VERY similar between the two motors, if not identical, the only real differences is that the PCM connectors are different and that the LQ1 has a MAF and no MAP, the exact opposite of the 3100. but if you're swapping the motor harness with it, that's not a problem at all.

Although exactly opposite, this thread might be helpful: http://60degreev6.com/forum/showthre...-DOHC-for-3X00

This is a bit late and you may have already completed this, but yes it will fit. I put a 95DOHC into my 93 3.1 GP.

The good news is that GM did this for you, so all the parts you need are available.

Things I can think of you have to change:

            Engine mount
Coolant hard lines and radiator pipes
            AC lines
Exhaust parts (you will need the downpipe from the donor and make like a 6" extension where the cat bolts to the exhaust system

I had to make some slight wiring changes due to my 3.1 having an older style 4t60e, the newer trans from the DOHC i used had a newer style with more wiring. I also had to ad a VATS delete since my car did not have it. You will need to research pinouts from the main block connector on your firewall and make sure all the wiring from the motor connector lines up right.

I might have created a thread about this, but its been a number of years.

              That should be it.
