1990 3.1l ecu

I pretty new chevy motors, I have a 3.1L I took out of a 90 lumina
I bolted it up to a t5 borg warner and now I need an ECU to make it run.
An asking if I could a M/T ECU from a later year lumina like a euro or something around those lines. any ideas would be greatly appericated.

what exactly are you planning on putting it in?

and the factory ECM will run with a manual transmission.

I'm putting it in my 86 s10, the 2.8 threw a rod. the 3.1 came with an A/t ecu. so i will run just putting everything together. I'm also thinking upgrading the fuel pump will be a good idea

are you leaving all of the aluminum stuff on it(keeping it a gen2), or not? the easiest way to get it running is to make the ECM think it's in drive all of the time. the proper way is to get a tune done on it so that the ECM expects it to be a manual.

EDIT: i couldn't tell you how well the TBI/carb pumps flowed.

DOUBLE EDIT: maybe i can.... according to autozone, the replacement pumps flow 35GPH at 12-17PSI. 35GPH can support roughly 420HP, but flow will drop if pressure is raised. since the gen2 setup would run at 43.5PSI, i couldn't tell you how much of as reduction it is.

I am keeping the motor all stock, was just hoping that there was a m/t ecu i could use instead of making dummy sensors so the engine could run.
how would i go bout tuning the ecu to make it a manual. i mean like the honda guys can solder there ecu

soldering isn't the trick here, it's erasing the stock PROM via UV light and programming it, or removing the stock PROM for an electronically erasable one, or using an adapter like a G1 from moates.

BTW: the auto and manual trans ECM are exactly the same, the only differences is in the tune itself and just not connecting the PRNDL and torque converter clutch stuff to the ECM, and preferably hooking up a clutch anticipate switch so the ECM knows if the clutch is engaged or not.

well i work at a auto parts dc and here we flash ecu for customers would that help to program it.

these are not flash programmable like the later PCMs.

and you do have a way of programming a 27SF512, right?

now that you mentioned it what program will i need to get to be able to program,

for tuning/burning/datalogging, i do it all through tunerpro. what kind of burner are you looking at using though?

ahh, a willems... yeah, it can burn 27C256 EPROMs as well IIRC, so technically, you don't even need a G1 adapter, just pull the sticker off of the factory EPROM, erase it via UV light, and then use a HDR1 adapter from moates to program the PROM while it's still in the MEMCAL, then cover the window. erasing via UV is the longest part of the operation.

i believe the dual-power communicate through the parralel port though, so with a new enough computer, that could be an issue. they're also a bit more involved to setup compared to what i use(BURN2 from moates).

will any uv light do. i have a small light that i use to find leaks on motors, or should i get a big that plugs in
