We are currently doing a 3400 swap into a fiero (3rd one) did my first one 6 years ago when it wasn't very common at all in a Fiero, and today I'm still finding new ideas and issues with each swap I've done.
I've normally used a 7730 ECM from a 3.1L j-body, but the last car we found was an 89 Z24 5spd 2.8L. It had the 7730 ECM so didn't think there would be any difference with the ECM's between the years with same part number. Well I started to get into repinning the harness and found wires in locations unfamiliar to me. I went online and got a pin-out for the ECM from the 2.8L and was surprised. I never looked at the top end of the motor, so I didn't realized it doesn't use a digital EGR. It's computer controlled like a stock 3400 motor with pintle positioning.
My question is: are all the 7730 ECM's capable of controling an electronically controlled EGR? Would anybody have the base programming for this ECM if different from a normall 3.1L 7730 application?
This is really interesting to me to see if it can work. The current swap we doing, we've incorperated a digital EGR using the N/A series one 3800 digital EGR plate and spacer. I can't find anymore of these plates at any junkyard around me now. I's rather use the stock 3400 EGR is possible.
I figured GM would have made all the 7730 ECM's the same, the programming would be the difference between applications used for the ECM. I did find a site showing pin-outs for the f-body cars and it used pin locations that were not being used on the j-bodies.
If anyboday and any info or links for the 7730 ECM
