  • Help with 99 Venture 3400 swap please

    Hello,
I am new to this site and I really am impressed by the depth of understanding I have seen here. I don't know if anyone can help me on my problem though. I bought a 99 Venture van for $300 to fix and sell. The engine had the famous intake leak and whoever fixed it dropped crud down the lifter valley and it worked its way up and plugged the oil ports on two cam bearings and spun them then one froze up and the cam went snap into two. I got another 3400 out of an 01 Alero and noticed that the reluctor ring on the front of the cam is different. It is small with a notch sticking up to come close to the cam sensor. The cam in the engine I removed has a big ring with a notch recessed into it. The sensors appear to be the same although they are a different part number. But a 00 Venture uses the same cam as this 01 Alero and the same cam sensor as my 99 Venture. My question is can I use this cam and what sensor should I use (if it matters)? Will the PCM read both reluctor rings as the same analog signal? I just don't want to do this twice!

Thank you so much and have a blessed day!

The cam isn't a problem, as they are all compatible with the different sensors. You will want to swap the 99 fuel injectors and regulator (just the whole rail basically) because those were changed in 2000. The computer won't work well with the newer injectors unless it is reprogrammed to use them. You can swap the upper intake to keep the EGR setup as it was stock.
