I want to swap the engine in my 87GT 5spd, but am not totally decided on what to put in it.
My wifes Fiero has the 4.5 Allante. I have the 4.9 out of my old Fiero, but really want to put it in the Lotus clone do something different on the Fiero.
I work in a large salvage yard and have access to any of the 60 degree engines. I like the displacement of the 3.9, but do not really want to deal with the variable cam unless someone has come up with a good solution.
I think the 3.5 with an external trigger is probably the best choice for me now.
Does anyone know of any performance data on 3.5 and 3.9 conversions?
Is there an affordable way to change the cam in the 3.9 and then use the external trigger?
I guess I understand the 3.5 uses a standard flywheel from an 88 or newer. is this correct?
I have read some about converting Fieros to the G6 6spd, but what are the flywheel options if I use the 3.9, but retain the 5spd getrag?
I guess that is a good start on what I need to come up with an informed decision.
Thanks,
gene
