  • 03 Monte Carlo 3400 in a Firebird with 4L60E??

I'm preparing to do a head gasket on my 94 Firebird and have been looking for some performance upgrades I could do while I was working. Apparently i don't have much to work with with a 3.4 SFI. I've been looking around and found a 3400 from a 2003 Monte Carlo with 100,000 miles for $200. According to various sources this engine is supposed to get at least 20 more HP (plus it has less milage than my 152,000 2.4 SFI and may last longer). Would it be a direct replacement for the 3.4 that is in my Firebird? Will the Monte Carlo 3400 bolt up to a 4L60E tranny without problem?

Although the engine is in perpendicular, I'm sure my motor mounts sill bolt up to the Monte Carlo's 3400? Will there be sensor problems or anything like that?

What all would I have to do to make it work?

Here is some info about the 2003 Monte Carlo - http://www.new-cars.com/2003/chevrol...rlo-specs.html

Thank you for the help and information,
    Dallas

Dig around some more, there are many threads about 3x00 swaps in RWD applications, and if the thread is not there I'm almost postive you will find a link to another page with some more specific info.

It will not bolt directly to your particular 4L60E, as the starter is on the wrong side. Later 4L60E's (starting around 97-9 were available with a removable bellhousing, in which case you can find a V6 bellhousing (from a 3.8L F-body) and it will all bolt up. Most people who do FWD swaps into a RWD are mainly doing a hybrid, where they just swap the top end. Or, they goto a 700R4 tranny which is also available with the starter on the proper side (IIRC).

      Welcome to the site!

Thanks, guys. So, are you saying the top end will bolt in? Just the heads and intake? I've been reading elsewhere and I've heard that I would need the pistons also.

        Thanks for the help.
