Can I Change a 92 Grand Prix from 3.4 DOHC to 3.1

I need help! I bought a used '92 Grand Prix with the 3.4L DOHC and a 5 speed manual transmission. The engine needs to be rebuilt and I don't have a lot of expendable income to sink into this car, so I was thinking about converting it to a 3.1L V6. My understanding is the 3.1L is much easier to maintain and parts are not so hard to find or as expensive as parts for the 3.4 liter. The power loss does not bother me. Would I need a new computer for the car? What about the wiring harness? Most of all will it work with the 5 speed manual transmission? The 5 speed manual tranny is the reason I bought this car. I've always wanted one in a mid 90's model Grand Prix, but the engine issues are making wish I had not bought it. Any advice or help would be appreciated.
