I have a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix with a 3.1L engine. I bought it after the previous owner had replaced the head gaskets but didn't finish hooking up the harness etc. I finished plugging in the harness and started the car up to find it had 2 misfires. Long story short, previous owner installed exhaust pushrods on intake causing piston to valve contact on two cylinders. Removed the heads and found both heads severely cracked along with the bent valves. Option 1 would be to try to find a set of heads and install them, but with the piston to valve contact and the extreme overheat the engine experienced previously cracking and warping the heads has me questioning the shortblock. Or option 2, swapping the engine. I found a good running 3.1L from a 1995 Achieva but I don't know what the changes were between 2000 and the 1995 3100 engine (I thought it was something to do with revised heads). Would that be a reasonable swap or would I be better off trying to get a 3.4L from like an 03 Impala? Thanks for all your help.
