  • 97 Pontiac Grand Prix 3.1 for '03 Pontiac Grand Prix 3.1

The engine on my 97 Pontiac GP crapped out on me yesterday. I found a good price on an 03 GP engine that is also a 3.1L... Would these 2 engines be an easy swap, or would it require a lot of modifications??? I need help with this ASAP. I figured it would be pretty easy since it is the same body style. Please let me know

The '97 has a different EGR setup than the '03. You could get a 96-98 maybe a '99 3400 upper plenum which has your style EGR, bolt it to the '03 engine, and go from there.

Although the 97 has the different style EGR mounting than the 03, both EGR valves connect the same and electrically work the same, so as long as you use the respective intake and pipe for the EGR Valve, you're fine.

Obviously I'm wrong here, but I thought the smallest available motor for the 1997-2003 GPs was the 3400?

No. 3100 only, no 3400 in the GP

                3400 in GP

                Grand Prix SEs have a 3100 LG8 or 3800 L36
Grand Prix GTs use the 3800 L36 and the
Grand Prix GTPs use the 3800 L67 supercharged engines.

Earth To scotty! Holy old-post spideyman.

Um...also the SE's could get the 3100 Vin "M" (L82 for all you smart highschoolers who speak in code) from '97-98! Maybe even early '99
