ive been reading the info on here about swapping a 3500 into the grand am. mine has the 3400. from what ive read it sounds like the motor mounts are not a problem and it bolts to the stock transmission. i will need the external crank trigger from the WOT store and i can use the top half of the intake, fuel rails, fuel injectors, and ignition off of the 3400.... is this correct so far ? what cars should i be looking for to get a 3500 engine out of ? thanks for any help and info guys.

IMO, you could do a top swap. The LA1 and LX9 can be interchangeable. Aside from some forged parts, and the LX9's VVT, you'll get a nice gain from just a top swap. I plan on doing it myself once the funds come in.-Chris-03 Black GAGT SedanMODS:

Front STB / MSD Ignition: 8.5mm wires & blaster coils / SOME BIG GODDAMNED MUDFLAPS
And some other stuff to make it look pretty.

By using the UIM from the 3400 you are really cutting into the airflow of the 3500 which is its biggest PLUS.
I recommend using the LX9 Intake, but, you will need a TB and TB adapter. As of April 2

You have to check because I guess some of the 3500s did not get them. I'm not sure if it is car specific, but you have to check the snout of the crank for a certain casting number or something like that.
EDIT: Have a looksy in this thread (post #3 by Forced, he says what number on the snout means its a forged steel crank):

not to bring up an old thread,
but if you are still looking at doing this swap there are a few other things you need to bring over from the old engine. Like the two crank sensors, fuel rail and a cable driven throttle. Its not that hard to swap the engine just need time and all the right parts.
The two engines are basically built the same way and gm just updated a bunch of things on the LX9. You just gotta make sure you get an LX9 3500 cuz at some point (2008ish) they started using a VVT 3500 that is completely different and wont work.
