  • 92-93 3.1L swap..wiring issues

I have a 1993 Cutlass I am swapping a 1992 Driveline into. My main concern is the 1993 Engine harness has 2 extra wires for the Tranny connection. It goes from 5 to 7. I was going to use the harness from the 1992...but there is about 5 extra wires in the bulkhead to the firewall. Any idea what the difference would be? The 1992 I pulled the harness from is a plane jane no power anything and the 93 is full power...so why would the older, and plane car have more wires? Should I just use the original 93 harness and try to splice the tranny connection? Or will the extra two wires for solenoids affect the operation?. I am assuming between 92-93(maybe 94 I didn't check manuf. date) the trans got an extra solenoid or sensor. Also another difference is the 1992 is a floor shift and my 93 is a column.

I don't have the 93 drivetrain. The 92 was a good runner, rusty, fuel pump went out. I got the 93 for 100 bucks with the motor no tranny. (I bought this to fix my 93 sunbird I couldn't get to run right.) Now I'm trying to swap it so I have a good runner and looker. I found the diagrams after much searching on ALLDATA. Using the original harness, the extra two wires on the tranny plug are for the temp sensor from what I can find. The rest looks the same. (different color coding on the wiring although) I think its a late model 93 because they didn't list the 93 for having the 7 wire plug, Only 94+ I will check my gauge cluster as well and make sure it has a Trans Temp Gauge.

The cluster will not have the temp gauge for the trans. It's internal information that the ecm/pcm uses to interpret driveability operation.

Ya I looked and saw nothing, then read up on it. But the issue now is, I have Chiltons wiring diagram and 2 others off ALLDATA.com...but NONE have the correct color coding for my harnesses? I know they are original 92 (5 wire) and 93 (7wire) but the colors and locations are way different. I have 3 that match up per color, but that doesn't necessarily mean they go together. The 5 Wire has WHT, DK GRN, TAN/BLK, PPL, LT GRN, the 7 TAN/BLK, ORG/BLK, PPL/BLK, LT GRN/BLK, LT GRN/BLK, (They are identical), RED, and BRN....anyone have ideas? Piggy back controller?
