use whatever fits your harness. If it throws a code, then change sensor. But it should be fine either way from what people have experienced.

      red to red/white tracer
      brown to black
      green to grey/white tracer

That is how I would do it. If you have a multimeter, you should be able to determine power and ground from the car harness.

Finally got around to finishing the engine install.
Not tooo many probs. Had to use the injection rack from the 3400. Tubing and pressure reg were different from the 3100 car motor.

Only thing now is the ac compressor. Wanted to use the 3400 one and not crack the system, but the bottom bolt will not align up. Both top bolts fit.
also compressor from the 3100 has different hose hook up.

What if I only run it with upper two bolts tightened up?

        Any suggestions?

Pic? I know there are issues with the AC mounts on a 3500, but the 3100 and 3400 share the same mounts, as far as I can remember.

I'll try to go over tomorrow and get some pics.

Tried to bolt the 3100 compressor to the old 3400 block and same prob. top bolts fit, bottom one doesn't.

            Thanks for the reply!

I'll check out my 02 Rendezvous as well to see if I can see anything out of the ordinary. Unfortunately, I only have a 3500 block here at the house to compare to. The 2 3100 blocks I have at the other house are older, so they may be different, although one of them came out of my old Beretta (94), which was replaced by a 3400 (02?), and everything bolted up fine.

Without a pic, can you explain more as to them not aligning... I really couldn't see much in my engine bay, but I noticed the AC compressor top bolts go through the engine mount. On a 3100 in a Malibu, the engine should should be on the side, so there would be a small bracket (for lack of a better word) that will fit in between the top mounts of the AC compressor and the block. Perhaps that has something to do with it?

No "bracketts" just threaded holes on both blocks. Sounds like that may be the issue. I will investigate in the AM

Bracket was probably a bad word... So I found some photos instead

Take a look at the AC compressor in the following pic. This is how it should be on the original engine. As you can see, the engine mount is between the compressor and the block.

Now, if you look in the same location on this next pic, you will see a "spacer" (probably a better word than bracket) in place of the engine mount.

That is where I think you may be running into issues. Unfortunately, I can't find any 2002 or 2003 images for comparison (these are both 2004), but the blocks haven't changed in this area, that I know of.

Strange. Ben and I have this Achieva almost done (just looking at coolant hoses and tuning to wrap it up). It's a small port 3100 -> 3400 with large port 3100 UIM (hehehe). It has the "spacer" that's in Brads 2nd pic, and the lines come in the back (not on top like that 2nd pic, meaning either shorty filters, or the 45* filter adapter) and the original A/C (didn't crack the system open) bolted right up... I did have trouble getting the bottom bolt to catch anything until I drew the compressor tight to the block though. Once it was really close to the block the bottom bolt went right in without a problem because I think the compressor wasn't angled right for the bolt to catch its hole.

Worked on it for a few hours last night.

Pocket rocket: I tried with the top bolts tightened, loose , engine mount loosened up too. Just no luck.

I had to use the engine mount like in the top picture for the install.
                        It came off the 3400.
Still could not get the bottom bolt bolt in.
Did the start up . Engine ran good.
                        No warning lights!
Few things to finish up. Clean puke tank and install, hood back on, exhaust hangs back it rubber groments and a quick connecter replaced on egr tube. Front rotors cleaned up.

I can't imagine you will have any trouble with it using 2 bolts to hold the A/C compressor on. Besides, the belt should help hold it to the block to some degree.
