  • 95 GTP 5 Spd Swap and OBD 2 w/ 96/97 Engine..

Well it will be offically under way after the northern IL meet.. I have my 5 spd setup for a few weeks now as you know from my 92 Z34 thread.. I Have pretty much all the parts to do it just have to get a few wiring detail for the OBD 2 Part.. If anyone can help me out here..

So what i need some info and leads on is who can tune my computer for me?? I need it tuned for the 5 spd.. Emissions deleted.. 2nd O2 deleted, a Performance Tune a little, and whatever else pops up..

Also some wiring details.. I remember a couple guys on 60V6 did this OBD 2 swap..

I think its going to pretty B/A once its done.. It shouldnt take long to do.. I should have everything.. OH oh Except the dang $550 Spec clutch.. I will order that a week before i am going to need it..

Let me know what you guys think.. I'll try to keep this updated as much as possible and try to document it all.. Well thats if you guys want the pics and info..

    I got a parts car..

1996 Chevy Lumina LS 3.4 DOHC.. Trans is stuck in 2nd gear but still drove.. I got it from INDY from a member on MyMonte.. I checked it out and seems i will be using quite a few other items other than the engine and harness and computer.. While i have it on the lift i saw that it has the bigger rotors up front so i am going to take them and use it on the GTP.. Taking the caliper brackets, Calipers, and rotors.. Also i was in the rear and noticed it has the bigger rear sway bar so i will be taking that too and adding it to the GTP.. I am happy with the buy on the car but yet not happy.. The engine burns a little oil.. It has 161,xxx miles and not looking to rebuild or tear it down as it was not in plan to do so.. So once its in my GTP im going to run every oil additive possible to help keep the burning down.. I cant complain too much since i got the car for $300.. $375 including gas to haul it.. Body is super clean and no rust.. yes no rust.. I figure i cant complain too much about the motor since it will be damn close to free by the time i scrap the body..

Today i started the removal process of the harness and engine.. I'm pulling the engine like i do with every other car i had pulled the motor or trans.. I have removed the harness from the body and bunched it up on top of the engine.. Removed all hoses and electrical from body.. Removed the ball joints, brake lines, tie rods, and steering coupler.. Down pipe is removed.. All that is left is to remove the 4 cradle bolts and lift up the car and the engine will be out.. So far it has gone smoothly and i have worked on it about 2 hrs so far taking my time since all will be reused..

I will try to get some pictures up of the progress i did today.. Oh and i post pics up of what i assume will be a problem with the Clutch master Cylinder and Heater Core lines.. On the 96/97 the heater core lines run around the brake booster which might interfear with the clearance of the clutch master.. i will mock it all up though later..

Whomever is following up on this LMK who you are.. Thanks and enjoy my project..

Progress Pics of Ripping the car apart..

96 Caliper Brackets and Calipers to Go BIG on the front brakes

    Downpipe

    No RUST!!!

    Bigger Sway Bar

    Empty

    Engine Out!

And I Need This Gasket New or Used..

Heres how the 96/97 Heater core lines are routed.. You can now see why im concerned with space for the clutch master.. Bu i think there should be enough room.. I will find out..

      OOOOO YES..

Just what is needed for the 96 harness to work in my 95.. I remember bv32k i think his user name was did this same swap but with the auto still and he told me i had to add a few wires to the interior.. other than that its a plug and play.. Im not certain what wires it will be but i will find out sooner than later hopefully.. But i have to strip my Z34 next for the 5 speed and then dig into my 95..

You need a smaller brake booster setup from a 91-93 W body and I would get rid of the ABS personally.

I got that covered.. I am using the Brake Booster from my Z34 5 Spd parts car.. I did notice how much bigger the 94+ ones were..

Why would i want to get rid of my ABS? It does work.. Worked decently.. I have no clue if it had to do with the ABS or not but i dont drive the car much and it sat for about 2 weeks and so i took it out for a drive.. was doing about 80 and jammed on the brakes and i felt the pedal go down and it went about 1/2 way down and didnt go anymore like all the pedal travel was used up which i think it was and the car was braking as if i was pushing the pedal lightly about 1/4 the way down.. It did it once like that and it was pretty wierd.. when i got home which was like 2 miles later the calipers were smoking.. so i'd say they could have been overworked a little..

Why not go OBD1? I think your connectors are the same, just re-pin them and use the 7727 or whatever it is... Less sensors and crap!

why bother even doing that? the 94-95 cars are 2E, there is manual tranny option in the XDF i made....

but, his call, i'm not gonna deny him the info he needs for either one...

I thought the 94-95 cars were tuneable but not much was mapped for the XDFs ?
