  • What's necessary to swap a 3.1LV6 for a 2.4L-4?

My son totalled his '95 Grand Am (with a newly rebuilt 3.1L V6)

We recently found a similar '95 Grand Am with a body in good condition and a failing 2.4L 4 cyl engine.

I have an idea of what's involved mechanically to swap the engine, since I removed/replaced the engine we've got for the rebuild.

What else, if anything, would need to be changed out on the new body? ECM?, wiring harness(es)? I can see it might be a fairly extensive job beyond the engine compartment - or not - I don't know.

Has anyone out there done something like this?

the computer, harness, radiator, engine, trans, all the motor mounts, axles and i think that's it..

when you pull out the 2.4 it's always a good idea to soak it in gasoline and set it on fire.. then beat it down to a pile of rubble with a sledge hammer.

by the law of averages, doesn't that increase the life of every other motor in existance?

you should have everything you need, but the wiring harness may suck to change over

say what you will about the 2.4 yea it has problems such as the main bearings going and the waterpumps blowing. and headgaskets leaking or valve covers leaking. but if u build one up they can push some nasty power! my z was insane. and left v8's in the dust. but i guess any 4 cyl with a t3 turbo pushing 20 lbs of boost would.
