  • engine mount

hi guys, im just about ready to pull the engine out of my z34. but i cant locate the final bolts to loosen the mount from close to the firewall . i took 3 out, but when i yank on the motor, the tranny moves too, all the bolts are off the bell housing and torque converter. some help would be great.

Did you remove the bolts holding the flexplate to the torque convertor (if its an auto)?

      engine mounts

yes all that is done, my problem is just behind the fire wall engine mount. i took off 3 nuts, im pretty sure there is one more somewhere. im yanking on the engine but the transmission moves with the engine. i also noticed a pic of this engine and shows 4 bolt holes on the block and 3 on the other side closest to the front. the z34 leaves me wondering where it is. i cant pass on this car. i love it and i love these engines too.

There should be 7 bolts holding the engine to the trans, and then the sleeves (for lack of a better word) that act as aligning pins. I know those can get tight sometimes and you have to actually pry the engine and trans apart.

hi Brad, prying the engine apart wont be the problem, the problem still lies closest to the fire wall where the engine mount would be located close to the tranny. i used my floor jack to lift the engine a bit off the engine mount closest to the oil filter, if i can only locate the problem area this motor will come out just fine. thanx.

The bolt on my fwd trans that is closest to the firewall doesn't bolt in through the bellhousing into the engine but rather it bolts through the engine into the transmission. I'm pretty sure it takes a long extension coming at it from the passenger side of the car. If that one is out with all the others then it should pry free.
