If money is no option then get a Vette. Not only does it have more power, its lighter, has more features and handles much better than a GA ever could. Need 4 Doors? Then get a Cadillac CTSV1993 EXT. CAB, 3.4L V6 TBI, 5spd manual. Sonoma

I know everyone has their own opinion, but I have always seen that yes, its much easier and sometimes cheaper to "buy" a fast car... But then what can you say about it? Yeah its fast out of the box and all that jazz... But what did you do to get it there? besides open your check book.
I've always felt this way and this is why I do some of the crazy things I do... I've kept with the 3x00 style engine for a while now, and didn't even go to the fancier 3500 style block and such... But I kept all that INCLUDING the much hated 4t60e transmission and I've managed to take a car that runs 16.5's stock, and 15.0 (at best) 3400 swapped and put this car into the 13's but consistent 14.0's and such... I'm proud of what I did and I can say exactly that, I did it.
Everyone has their own opinion and if it makes you feel better to start with something faster the so be it... But I will just never understand.
It's an overused saying yes I know, but my car is "Built, not Bought"
There aren't too many people out there who can say they've touched every nut and bolt in their entire drive line, from the intake cone filter all the way through to the lugnuts on the wheels... I've only out sourced a few things, machine work, and paint... other than that I've assembled everything.
Good luck with the T/A though, I will say its a much better investment over doing a V8 swap on a FWD car... I think that whole swap is a little too expensive, and if you really have to have a V8... it's not worth it.

^^^^I have to agree with that. After all if it wasnt for us enthusiasts the 60 degree V6 possibly wouldnt have any aftermarket and just be the everyday reliable family car engine.
The 95 T/A is an excellant choice for your "bought" not "built" car. The LT1 is a good platform..sorta...if it wasnt for the optispark distributor and the water pump design I would give it 8 out of 10 stars on my tickle my pickle meter
Why not go ahead and get an LS1? 98 and up T/A or Formula? 305 hp whereas the LT1 has 275hp. I had a 94 Firebird Formula with the LT1 and it was a great car, but I was wishing the whole time that i owned it that it was a T/A. The LT1 is a great engine overall, but just keep an eye on that waterpump because if it leaks your opti is toast.sigpic

im glad to hear that you are going for your dream car, man-im glad to hear that someone that isnt a CEO is going to get that car, the one they think about day to day & that im sure always drops your jaw whenever it drives by with some other jerkoff behind the wheel.
until i found the S7 i used to dream of owning one of these bad boys (i love the nostrils & the extra little styling, but its very similar ) so trust me i feel where you're coming from.
also, whats wrong with the LT1? ever since i found out GM destroked/gave it a 305's cylinder bore to make a short stroke 4.3 V8 ive been thinking if i ever build a v8 itll be that one (since the audi 40v 3.7 v8 costs like $2000 & wont bolt to $#!%).
so if there are any big shortcomings to the LT1 im all ears-since the 4.3 L99 is the same engine but destroked/bored.
out of curiosity why a 95 & what color/engine/trans/etc... is your dream car 2002GrandAmGT?
mines right here (not necessarily this color)
mechanically its such a piece of gas guzzling ford shit, but god its gorgeous-its like a really slutty hot chick: great to look at, but if you pop the hood you're not gonna like what you see...

Well if you got the cash there is nothing wrong with wrenching on an expensive car. I would if I could. It would be a Lotus though!1993 EXT. CAB, 3.4L V6 TBI, 5spd manual. Sonoma

if you like the v8 but want the mpg you could always get a 5 speed one & swap in a L99 4.3 v8 (its the same as the LT1 but short stroke & with a smaller bore).
in auto caprices that weigh 4100lbs they were known to give 26-28 mpg highway, so tune up & mated to a 5 speed in a car that weighes 600lbs less, you could probably get some pretty skippy gas mileage & not have to lose that amazing V8 sound.
youd also have the only one ive ever heard of, & thats usually something to brag about :P
checking out the wikipedia pages for the GM LT & LS series engines will tell you a lot as well
im just thrilled to hear that someone will be getting their dream car!!

The LT1 is a 5.7. And no doz, the LT1 makes great power, no doubt. If i was to do a V8 swap in my car it would definetly be an LT1. The only downfalls the LT1 has is the aforementioned water pump design and optispark distributor. Also, have you guys seen the prices on those DIS conversion kits? Id rather purchase an MSD opti and be done with itsigpic

The skip shift only engages when you are under light throttle. There is nothing wrong with it. It will save you some gas and some extra shifts. If the engine has enough torque to shift from first to fourth then why not?
The LT1 engine is antiquated by todays standards. Iron Vortec heads flow better out of the box than LT1 heads and flow better on the intake than LT4 heads. LS1's are stronger, lighter and make way more power. They are cheep and more plentiful in junkyards than LT1's too. Even the truck motors are all aluminum now so they are already showing up in yards too.
If you want a killer big bore short stroke combo (no doz) then dream of a 6.2L block with a 4.8L crank. It will net you a 103.5mmX83mm BoreXStroke (4.075X3.26) or if you ever find yourself tripping over a 7.0L block that has a bore of 104.8 (4.125) just like the old 400ci small blocks.1993 EXT.
