  • 3400 in a 98 Jimmy

Hi. I'm looking into taking out my shakey 4.3 out of my 98 blazer, and putting a s/c 3400 into it. I would really like to be able to use the factory computer to run the 3400, so all my guages work as original and none of the service lights come on. I'm not new to wiring but I'm lost when it comes to the factory computers, I have no idea how similar the 4.3 sensors are to the 3400, and how possible or impossible it would be to get the 3400 running off a reprogrammed blazer computer.
I know the 4.3 has a crank sensor, a cam sensor, three 02's. (two bank, one after cat)

I plan on making this pass emissions, but i can worry about that later. Anyone know how similar gm made all the sensors on a newer 3400 compared to the 4.3's?

Neat project but two totally different animals. The 4.3L is a 90 degree, the 3.4L is a 60 degree engine.

The FI systems are completely different. The blazer has a distributor, the 3400 has DIS ignition.

Lots of differences so plan to pull the harness from the donor vehicle.

Bellhousing is different but this can be switched out to an older Camaro or S10 2WD or 4WD 700R4 or 4L60-E system.

Bellhousing will come from a 2.2 auto, 98+ (removable). I'm sure i can get it mech sound installl wise.
I know the ignition systems are different, however, the distributor is not anything like the older ones, and it is pretty much all computer controlled. All types of advance are done with the ECM. It has the cam sensor built into the dist, and theres no timing tab on these engines either, its all done with a scanner.
What I'm more worried about is the VR signal to the module pack (i know 2.2's pre 95 still used that. doubt 96 up still do..) and the injector triggering from the central injector setup to the sequential 3400 setup.

I would use megasquirt, however, i want all my dash stuff to still work and I'd rather let someone else tune it. I deal with MS enough with all the local racetrucks (mine included)

I'm fine with someone HPTune'ing it.
