  • 95 GP 3100 swap - noob questions

Ok, so I'm not totally alone on this, I have a friend helping me who has done engine swaps, but I want to be able to get some things answered so I'm not a complete idiot. We're actually lifting it out the top since I don't have time to drop the cradle. I'm working on a 95 Grand Prix with a 3100, swapping the same engine from the same year of car with only 95k miles on it (how lucky did I get on that?)

This is what i have thus far, the engine is still in the car, the dogbones are off, the accessories are off, all the sensors are unplugged and labeled, fuel lines off... basically anything I could do to the top of the engine that takes a while to work on.

Now, I got under the car and found where the engine mount SHOULD be and unbolted it, two nuts that attached to a big metal plate just off the side of where the frame comes together in the corner. Are those the only two I should have to worry about or should I also take out the one on the side of the block where the mount actually bolts to the block?

This is where dropping the cradle comes in handy, I know... but what are some tips and tricks to unbolting the engine from the tranny, there are bolts and they are all in weird spots... of course. Then, there is a bracket that attaches the engine to the tranny, I can get to the bottom bolt, but the top one is over top of the tranny, is it easier to go from the bottom or top?

Those were my biggest hiccups thus far. Any small tips would be appreciated, as well as bolt/socket sizes and things I should watch for since I'm learning to do this.

Go bottom...trust me it's easier...release the two bolts to craddle holding the rack & pinion & axles...that's it...it's off. Easy stuff
