  • 3.1 MPFI & 3100 SFI Head Swap

I have a '90 Cutlass Supreme with a 3.1 MPFI V6. The motor recently threw a rod and both heads are cracked. I've come across another block from a Beretta (2., and a set of heads from a 3100 SFI V6 '96 Monte Carlo.

I'm wondering if the heads from the SFI engine will work with the upper intake of the original 3.1 MPFI.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Nope. The port alignment is different between the heads. I know of one person that did it, but then you are loosing any benefit of the newer heads due to the terrible restrictions of old style plenum.

If you haven bought anythingyet I suggest going out and buying a 3400 from a recycler. Very well worth the money. The performance will put a big smile on your face.

Thanks Brad for the quick answer to my question.

Since I have the SFI heads and intake to the 3100, would you know what modifications I'd have to make to have it work properly with my '90 Cutlass Supreme's computer, and other parts?

That pretty much explains most, if not all of it. If you still have questions, there is always here as well:
