  • 97 lumina 3100 engine compatability???

I have a 97 lumina that needs a new engine. I have the new style rocker arms in the motor that have the bolt on top. I have looked at other motors from 96 lumina's, but they have the older style rockers with the nut instead of the kind that I have, and the egr is different as well. I have heard that I cannot use a motor if the rocker arms are not the same, but then the people selling me the motor say they will work as long as I switch the plenium to match my egr and use my old egr.

My question is can I use the motor from a 96, and just swap the plenium in order to use my egr?

Can I use the motors even if the rocker arm styles are not the same?

what else do I need to swap off my old motor if I use the motor from a 96?

what other motors are compatible with mine?

thanks in advance for your help!!!

Why do you need a new engine? And why not just use the old heads as well?

Honestly, I would look for a 3400 to swap in, instead of a 3100. Find the guide here: www.3x00swap.com

I need a new engine because I bought the car to fix and sell, and found out that the camshaft was broke. It is more economical for me just to replace the motor than try to rebuild it. I can get the 3.1 motor far cheaper than a 3.4, and I want the easiest swap possible so I can get the car back on the road.

I dont want to reuse the old heads because that would only add another 150.00 to the motor price for all the gaskets I will need, and for the extra money im sure I can find the same motor.

Do I have to use the old heads?

      thanks!
